Do a search on Google or Yahoo for anything. Let’s use sporting goods, or personal injury lawyer, or office supplies, as terms to search for in this example. And let’s use Google the search engine in this example.
If you search for any of those (or nearly anything else you can think of), you will find results to your search in 3 parts of the page:
1 – The top center (where there will likely be 1-4 results in a slightly shaded color box at top center of the screen).
2 – The far right column running down the side of the page. There you will find anywhere from 3-10 results running down the side of the screen.
3 – The main body of the search result itself (the organic or natural results), will be in the center of the page, below the 1-4 in the shaded box described in number 1 above.
The results described in numbers 1 and 2 above are sponsored links (aka sponsor search) results. That means those are perfectly relevant results to what you searched for, that the company who appears in the spot, paid to Google to make sure they appear there.
Companies that are smart enough to arrange such a thing with Google (or Yahoo) are smart. Why? Because Google (or Yahoo) will only show their ad when the search the web user made is a good fit to what their company is offering.
So using the examples we mentioned at the top of the page… Your search for sporting goods probably returned in the sponsored links/sponsor search columns, local and national sporting goods stores websites, where you can order all the sporting goods you were seeking. Your search for personal injury lawyers and office supplies probably had similar outcomes in their respective topics.
What makes it so smart to be one of those sites participating in the sponsored links/sponsor search programs, is that the website owners can guarantee that they are constantly being seen, on page 1 of the search results by internet customers looking for what they do or sell anyway. And they have more prominent placement on the page than the sites that simply turn up in the organic/natural search results. All of that of course adds up to being found by customers, and your website making a lot of money as a result!
The sites that advertise only pay for their appearance on the page, if the web searcher clicks on their ad, and thus chooses to visit their site. And that only happens if the customer feels that the ad matches what they were looking for anyway. So the sponsored link/sponsor search advertiser is only reaching highly targeted customers, who are likely to really buy from them (not random kooks who were looking for nude pictures of their favorite actress, or some other irrelevant search).
Investing in sponsored links/sponsor search advertising is a brilliant and inexpensive way to generate huge business to your site. What – you’ve heard that it’s not inexpensive? We’ll you’ve heard wrong.
If you shop around properly, you should be able to find a company to do your sponsored links/sponsor search campaigns at a low, flat rate, 1 time cost (not a recurring monthly payment to the company). And the company you hire should be able to get you very inexpensive click charges on nearly any topic. Clicks could (and should) often be as little as .05 -.10 CENTS per click! And they should not normally exceed .75 cents per click. Anyone paying insane numbers like $2.00 and more per click is being ripped off, and could dramatically lower their click charges by hiring a smart company (like ours) to manage their sponsored links/sponsor search campaigns.
